Baħar Iċ-Ċagħaq Playground Lies Neglected As Residents’ Complaints Fall On Deaf Ears

The residents of Baħar Iċ-Ċaghaq have raised concerns about the condition of their local playground, which they describe as “horrendous and dangerous”.
Despite numerous complaints to the council, promises to address the issues have gone unfulfilled, leaving the community frustrated and worried about the safety of their children.
A resident who has chosen to remain anonymous shared photographs of the playground, highlighting the urgent need for attention and action.
One of the most alarming issues reported by residents is the precarious state of a tree on the playground.
“This tree almost collapsed onto a car and they used reinforcement to hold it in place, it’s a disaster waiting to happen,” exclaimed one resident who preferred to remain anonymous.
Photographs shared with Lovin Malta reveal that the tree has been temporarily secured with reinforcement, posing a significant risk to both pedestrians and parked vehicles. The potential danger of the tree collapsing is a disaster waiting to happen, demanding urgent attention from the local authorities.
Furthermore, the football area within the playground lacks proper fencing. This oversight has resulted in dangerous situations, such as a ball flying out and nearly hitting a mother and her baby in a stroller.
Such incidents highlight the immediate need for a secure and safe environment to protect residents, particularly children, from potential harm.
Residents have also expressed their dismay over the overall state of the playground. The grass has withered and died, giving the area an unsightly appearance reminiscent of a post-apocalyptic scene.
Neglected maintenance has transformed a once vibrant and enjoyable space into a desolate and uninviting environment.
Despite numerous complaints sent to the council, residents have been disappointed by the lack of action and accountability. Assurances of resolving the issues have been made, but deadlines have consistently been missed. This continuous negligence has left the residents feeling unheard and frustrated with the council’s inability to address their concerns.
The residents of Baħar Iċ-Ċaghaq are now urging the council to take immediate action to rectify the dangerous conditions of their local playground. The safety and well-being of the community, especially children, should be a top priority.
“I have been living here for around two years, during this time there were some issues which I tried to tackle for a better environment, but unfortunately till now nothing has happened,” said another resident.
By taking immediate action, the council can restore the playground to its former glory with minimal resources and provide a safe recreational space for the community.
